Diurnal Heartbeat: Shanghai: Oil, Mixed Media, and Hybrid Oil 360° Panoramic VR Paintings by Dave Alber

This exhibition explores the architecture of Shanghai’s Bund (Pudong and Puxi) during sunrise and sunset. Architectural monuments provide a spatial continuity from painting to painting—an exhibition space reimagined as a living map, a cartographic environment—within which the paintings pulse back and forth echoing the heartbeat rhythm of dawn and dusk, life pulsing in the city, connecting individual lives with the earth’s diurnal rotation. 360° panoramic VR paintings communicate the transitions of time while placing the viewer/participant in a rotating context that metaphorically mirrors the earth’s revolution.
